Biography
A Miami, Florida-based Latin rock ensemble known as Playeros came together in 1986 through the efforts of percussionist Joedy Pauley, guitarist Scott Sherman, guitarist Carlos Fernández, saxophonist Richard Jay, bassist Al West, and drummer Martín Gallardo. Drawing influence from Santana, War, and the Allman Brothers, the group blended Western American rock, funk, and Afro-Cuban rhythms into a distinctive style. This mixture shone through on their recording of Funky Jazzy Latin Rock Band, an effort succeeded by the 1999 release Los Nietos de Miami.
