Biography
Luiza Borac ranks among Romania’s leading pianists of the present day. Her core focus lies on the compositions of George Enescu and Dinu Lipatti, although she also interprets a broad spectrum of repertory from outside her native country.
Born in 1968 in the university city of Pitesti, Romania, she began piano studies at age four and was subsequently enrolled at a Bucharest institution for musically gifted children. After earning the highest distinction from the Bucharest Music Academy, she profited from Romania’s post-1989 opening toward the West by securing a Chopin Society grant that enabled her to attend the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. She completed that program with equivalent honors and supplemented her training through master classes at the Juilliard School in New York and the International Summer Academy at the Salzburg Mozarteum, among additional institutions. Although she maintains her primary residence in Germany and performs throughout Europe and the United States, Borac has preserved strong connections with Romania. Her solo appearances have included Carnegie Hall, both the London and New York Steinway Halls, and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. As a regular participant in summer festivals, she has performed at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, and the Oslo Music Festival, together with numerous others.
Borac has devoted particular attention to Enescu and further Romanian composers. She produced the complete piano works of Enescu for the Avie label; in 2012 she issued, again on Avie, an album devoted to the comparatively little-known piano music of Lipatti. Signed in 2017 to the Profil - Edition Günter Hänssler label, she released the recording Inspirations & Dreams and followed it two years later with Mozart in Love. She also serves as Musical Ambassador for the Music in Our Schools initiative of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition.
