Montréal trio Lungbutter channels visceral, noise-driven minimal experimental rock rooted in each participant's deep roots within Canada's thriving D.I.Y. underground. Their first effort, the self-released Win Some/Lose Most from 2013, drew explicit parallels to Merzbow alongside Flipper. Ky Brooks, Kaity Zozula, and Joni Sadler—close associates already seasoned in multiple local experimental noise and punk outfits—established the group that same year and moved rapidly into the studio to capture the record. Its fusion of Sonic Youth's exploratory noise with Flipper's raw, discordant attack quickly placed the band on the underground noise circuit. The follow-up EP Extractor surfaced in 2014 as the members maintained a steady schedule of hometown performances plus occasional U.S. dates. After their paths diverged and prompted a year-long pause, the three reconvened in 2015. Opening slots alongside Perfect Pussy and Psychic TV soon exposed them to larger crowds, leading to the tracking of a full-length debut by the close of 2018 with Radwan Ghazi Moumneh of Jerusalem in My Heart at the helm. The sessions translated the ferocity of their live sets onto tape, securing a release on Montréal's Constellation Records when Honey arrived in mid-2019.
