Tori Zietsch records under the name Maple Glider, presenting herself as a Melbourne-based singer and songwriter whose expansive, hypnotic textures sit alongside lyrics of unflinching candor. Once she joined the Partisan roster, her first full-length statement arrived in 2021 as the close-knit To Enjoy Is the Only Thing. Two years afterward came the successor I Get Into Trouble, balancing playful eccentricity against sharply observed personal reflections.

Zietsch left behind a constricting religious childhood in Lismore, New South Wales, relocating to Melbourne where she entered the city’s music community. In 2016 she and her friend Daniel Pinkerton launched the indie-pop duo Seavera, whose sound merged indie-folk and electronic touches; the pair released several singles and EPs before parting ways in 2018. Zietsch then spent twelve months in Brighton, England, shaping the songs that would form her Maple Glider debut. On her return to Melbourne she aligned herself with the Pieater label and management firm, eventually securing a deal with the esteemed independent outlet Partisan Records.

Working alongside Pieater’s Tom Iansek as co-producer, she framed her debut album’s breathy, heartbroken songs with minimal instrumentation centered on gentle acoustic guitar and piano. The 2021 release earned favorable notices from reviewers, prompting her to begin work immediately on new material. Exploring self-scrutiny together with questions of religion, sexuality, and personal growth, I Get Into Trouble adopted a more experimental stance and a looser approach. Its richer production layers conveyed quiet assurance while intertwining intimate disclosures with wry turns of phrase.
