Marcelo Zarvos

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, pianist Marcelo Zarvos has built a long career as a composer, contributing music to numerous prominent films. He first explored classical repertoire during his teenage years before enrolling at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Zarvos subsequently immersed himself in jazz circles, issuing the well-received album Dualism in partnership with saxophonist Peter Epstein. His musical range soon broadened to encompass rock, electronic, and global traditions, a breadth that ultimately supported a thriving practice in film scoring. After debuting in that arena with the 2001 feature Kissing Jessica Stein, he gained steady demand across Hollywood, European productions, and New York’s independent sector. Further credits encompass Strangers with Candy (2005), The Good Shepherd (2006), The Air I Breathe (2007), Brooklyn’s Finest (2009), and the 2013 HBO biopic Phil Spector. Zarvos extended his work to television by scoring the Showtime dramas The Affair and Ray Donovan. He earned two Emmy nominations for the scores to You Don’t Know Jack and Taking Chance.
