Biography
Italian rapper Marracash first gained notice as a member of the hip hop collective Club Dogo before achieving wider recognition through independent releases. Between 2012 and 2014 he hosted MTV Italy’s rap competition program Spit, co-established the Rock Music imprint alongside producer Shablo, worked with numerous leading Italian rappers, and scored commercial breakthroughs via solo projects such as the 2019 album Persona.
Born Fabio Rizzo in Nicosia, Sicily, in 1979, he grew up in Milan, where his profile rose sharply after becoming a regular performer at the city’s influential Muretto club in 1998. His recorded debut arrived on the 2004 mixtape PMC vs. Club Dogo: The Official Mixtape, after which he contributed to projects by fellow Dogo Gang artists including Don Joevanni and Guè Pequeno. The single “Popolare,” issued in 2005, later appeared on the independently released Roccia Music mixtape that featured Club Dogo and Inoki. In 2008 Marracash joined Universal and delivered his self-titled debut album, crafted with Dogo Gang producers Don Juan and Deleterio; he also appeared on the first Dogo Gang compilation, Benvenuti Nella Giungla, that same year.
His second full-length, Finoa qui Tutto Bene, arrived in 2010 and showcased beats from Crookers and Bloody Beatroots. He swiftly followed with the third studio album King Del Rap and the sequel mixtape Roccia Music II. Recognition within the Italian rap community materialized in 2012 when he received the Best Artist prize at the MTV Italy Hip Hop Awards. That year he also began hosting Spit, a platform for unsigned rappers, and launched Rock Music to support emerging and veteran acts alike.
Following the 2015 release Status, Marracash reached the summit of the Italian charts in 2016 with the collaborative album Santeria, recorded with Guè Pequeno. The success carried into his next solo effort, Persona, which topped the Italian charts in 2019 and earned double-platinum certification. In 2020 he issued joint tracks with Italian songwriter Elisa and with producer/pianist Dardust.
