Australian rapper Masked Wolf weaves incisive, frequently autobiographical themes into his rhymes while maintaining crisp production standards. He gradually cultivated an audience through independent releases, achieving multimillion streaming figures with the single "Astronaut in the Ocean." That recording surfaced on the 2021 mixtape Astronomical before Masked Wolf issued his debut full-length studio album, The Devil Wears Prada But God Wears Gucci, in 2024.

Born Harry Michael and raised in Sydney, he began composing his own rap material at age 13 under the sway of Eminem and Kevin Gates. Additional influences emerged over time as he incorporated Drake's measured composure and the dark textures of American trap into his sound. Initial releases such as the 2018 track "Speed Racer" and the 2019 cut "Vibin" preceded songs confronting mental health and peer pressure, among them "Numb." Explosive recognition arrived with the January 2021 launch of "Astronaut in the Ocean," which surpassed 75 million streams inside a month, climbed to number four on the Australian charts, and reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100. The song anchored the mixtape Astronomical, which also featured appearances by X Ambassadors and Kevin Gates. Subsequent singles encompassed "It's You, Not Me (Sabotage)" alongside Bebe Rexha and "Just Names (Remix)" with Smokepurpp, while the 2022 collaboration "Fallout" paired him with Bring Me the Horizon.

Throughout 2022 and 2023 Masked Wolf continued issuing standalone material, then in 2024 previewed tracks from his first studio album, The Devil Wears Prada But God Wears Gucci. The project arrived in November 2024 and contained contributions from Kota the Friend, Lecrae, and Lil Skies. By the album's release date, "Astronaut in the Ocean" had accumulated more than a billion streams.
