Biography
Originating from London’s Bromley borough, Matt Terry studied at the D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Kent. Work as a waiter initially kept his training from reaching its fullest expression until a relationship ended, at which point he resigned and submitted an audition for the thirteenth series of The X Factor in the U.K. His take on Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me” advanced him to Boot Camp. Victory in the contest was followed by a number-three U.K. single; the track, “When Christmas Comes Around,” came from Ed Sheeran and marked Terry as only the second X Factor winner to issue an original debut single. Those accomplishments led to a deal with RCA Records.
