Biography
Born to two musicians, Canadian singer-songwriter Meaghan Smith absorbed a broad mix of older styles during her upbringing, with jazz and swing at the forefront alongside contemporary influences that shaped her wide-ranging songwriting. Issued in 2008, her first EP The Cricket's Quartet highlighted this range through jazzy torch material and hip-hop touches, after which she supported the release by touring with k.d. lang the next year. Also in 2009 her songs appeared in the television series One Tree Hill and Grey's Anatomy, and a session with T Bone Burnett produced a version of the Pixies' "Here Comes Your Man" that landed on the (500) Days of Summer film soundtrack. The resulting momentum led to her first album The Cricket's Orchestra, which Sire Records released in October 2009.
