Megaloh, born Uchenna van Capelleveen, emerged as a Dutch-Nigerian rapper after entering the world in Frankfurt and growing up in Berlin. Shaped by Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg, he developed a style of tongue-twisting, slightly aggressive lyrics set over smooth, golden age-inspired production. Before launching his solo path he belonged to the group Royal Authority, and although his earliest tracks featured English rhymes, he switched to German performances in 2001. The 2003 EP Game Set Match, issued with Battle Rapp, preceded a string of mixtapes such as #1 Draft Pick (2004) and Zeit für den Hund (2005). His debut full-length Im Game arrived in 2005 yet failed to resonate commercially, prompting continued work with fellow artists alongside further mixtapes that included the two-part Auf Ewig in 2013. That same year the studio album Endlich Unendlich became his first solo project to reach the German album charts, debuting at number nine and prompting a 15-date German tour. Three years afterward a third installment of the Auf Ewig series surfaced, soon followed by the full-length Regenmacher, which climbed to number two on the German charts and marked his strongest showing to date. Later in 2016 he revisited several tracks from the album alongside legendary Afro-beat drummer Tony Allen, resulting in the release Regenmacher (Afrobeat Session).
