METTE

Mette, also recognized professionally as Mette Narrative, works as a singer, dancer, and actress whose style centers on high-energy electronic-based dance pop. Her profile expanded after she took on the Barbie Video Girl role in the Barbie movie, an appearance that preceded the 2023 arrival of her METTENARRATIVE EP.

Mette Towley entered the world in Owatonna, Minnesota, in 1991 and spent her childhood between Severn, Maryland, and Alexandria, Minnesota, within a bi-racial household headed by a Black mother and white father. Dance training began at the Baltimore School for the Arts when she reached age four. A decisive shift occurred at sixteen after she became transfixed by backup dancers during a pop concert, prompting her to treat the discipline as a vocation. Following high school she completed a dance degree through the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, then relocated to Los Angeles. There she secured a five-year position as a dancer alongside Pharrell Williams. While still affiliated with Williams in 2017, she drew notice for her performance in the N.E.R.D. and Rihanna collaboration “Lemon” video. Subsequent screen work included parts in the 2019 features Hustlers and Cats as well as 2020’s The Old Guard. Music entered the picture with the 2021 single “Petrified.” In 2023 she again portrayed Barbie Video Girl in the hit Margot Robbie film Barbie and simultaneously issued her debut EP, METTENARRATIVE. Early 2024 brought the single “Darling Drive,” recorded with Sam Gellaitry.
