Biography
The duo Miamigo, based in Brighton, U.K., took cues from the shadowy and atmospheric elements of 1980s music. Influences they named included New Order, Duran Duran, and Michael Jackson, while also evoking the spirit of iconic John Carpenter film scores. Although their words echoed the decade, the singing kept a contemporary pop feel. Central to their sonic palette was extensive use of the Korg M1 synthesizer for textures and tones. Having collaborated on music in London for more than a decade, the pair only relocated to Brighton in 2015, at which point they started releasing material publicly. Their first EP, Hard to Love, appeared in June, with the Soda Lime Love EP arriving in November. Home studio sessions produced both releases, which came out on the duo's Indian Hop Recordings imprint. The second EP's lead track, What I Want, earned placement on the BBC Radio 1 Introducing playlist during the second half of 2015.
