Mike Dimes, the rapper from Texas, achieved sudden widespread recognition in 2021 through his track "My Story," which spread rapidly online and accumulated vast streaming numbers on multiple services. Subsequent releases including the project DLOG and the 2022 album In Dimes We Trust brought additional recognition and solidified his presence following the initial breakthrough. Upon joining Epic, he issued his first album under a major label in 2023 titled Texas Boy, enlisting features from artists such as Denzel Curry, Wiz Khalifa, and Joey Bada$$.
Michael Good, who performs as Mike Dimes, entered the world in Killeen, Texas, within a household connected to the military, leading to numerous relocations across the United States prior to establishing roots in San Antonio. From an early point in life he composed poems, and upon reaching high school he encountered the music of A$AP Rocky along with Joey Bada$$, prompting him to pursue rapping himself. Having already spent several years in the studio by that point, Dimes witnessed "My Story" achieve viral status via TikTok during 2021. Prepared for the opportunity, he promptly released DLOG as his initial mixtape. The next March brought In Dimes We Trust, an album he put out independently. Its energetic production and assured, concentrated delivery earned favorable reviews and ultimately secured him a recording contract through an imprint connected to Epic.
In contrast to the more solitary focus of his prior efforts, the major label introduction incorporated several prominent guest appearances intended to broaden his appeal. Texas Boy arrived in June 2023 and paid tribute to his Texas origins musically, incorporating contributions from figures including Maxo Kream and Denzel Curry as well as one of his own inspirations, Joey Bada$$, appearing on "Hatchback."
