During the 1980s Germany's Andre Tegeler immersed himself in ska and punk rock. Yet as the nation's young people collectively abandoned their Mohawks and shifted toward dance clubs in the 1990s, Tegeler moved in the same direction. Electronic music impressed him so deeply that he adopted the performing name DJ Moguai and began working as a professional disc jockey. After several seasons performing at Germany's leading clubs and large-scale raves, he moved logically into studio work. In 1994 he issued the widely circulated underground EP Best Before End. That release opened doors for Moguai, also known as Dial M for Moguai, to undertake multiple projects with established dance artists, although his most productive partnership developed with longtime friend and fellow German DJ Phil Fuldner. The pair first attracted notice on the European dance circuit in 1997 when Fuldner issued the chart-topping single "The Final," a fresh version of the "Captain Future Hymn." They generated further attention the next year when Moguai delivered the successful track "BEATBOX." It was unsurprising that Moguai and Fuldner both joined Kosmo Records at roughly the same moment, one of Germany's foremost dance imprints and home to numerous international dance successes.
