German pop trio Monrose emerged as one among countless groups propelled into the spotlight by the amateur talent program Popstars. Fashioned after the phenomenally successful girl group No Angels, the outfit that defined the show's greatest triumph, the trio originated during the fifth installment of the series, promoted through campaign slogans declaring "Neue Engel braucht das Land" ("The country needs new angels"). Over the summer of 2006, auditions drew more than 5,100 contestants across Frankfurt, Munich, and Dortmund, after which judges choreographer Detlef "D!" Soost, producer Dieter Falk, and singer Nina Hagen narrowed the pool down to twenty semi-finalists. Transported to Ischgl in Tyrol for intensive instruction in vocals, choreography, and physical conditioning, the contestants saw their numbers reduced by two or three weekly until six finalists remained. Divided into opposing trios, each set recorded competing versions of an album called Temptation while shooting a video for the proposed lead track "Shame." During the season finale aired on November 23, 2006, Mandy Capristo, Senna Guemmour, and Bahar Kýzýl prevailed over Arjeta Zuta, Katarzyna Zinkiewicz, and Romina Reinhardt, securing the opportunity to issue the finished album and single under the Monrose banner. Crafted by the production team Jiant and Snowflakers, "Shame" ascended to the top of the charts in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and Switzerland and registered as the quickest-selling single of 2006. Temptation arrived before the year closed and earned platinum certification within its opening week. A year afterward came the second album Strictly Physical, which yielded the German chart-topper “Hot Summer.” The third release, I Am, arrived in 2008 and marked a turn toward an electronic, dance-driven aesthetic that drew unfavorable notices from reviewers. After I Am, the group paused collective activities until the summer of 2009, when they commenced recording their fourth project Ladylike. Issued in 2010, that album featured the songs “Superstar DJ” and “Don’t Take it Personal.” Late in 2010 the members declared their intention to disband and focus on individual paths, a separation that took effect in 2011.
