Jyro and Jerome launched Mortal Wish in 1988 together with Wilson Peralta and Ray Tongpo, well before they virtually introduced industrial music to CCM. The quartet issued a demo cassette, after which the name was shortened and Peralta along with Tongpo were removed from the lineup. Mortal’s debut album Lusis surfaced on the Intense label in 1992; the single “Mytho-X” scored a hit on the Christian metal charts while CCM readers voted the duo best new band of that year. Additional guitars appeared on 1993’s Fathom, yet the project halted just prior to the recording of Wake, which reached stores the next year. One further album still emerged in 1996. The pair maintained activity by producing as Blood with Mark Rodriguez and by recording as Fold Zandura, also issuing the live Mortal EP Intense Live Series Vol. 5. A mellower Mortal side project, Pura, likewise appears on Intense. Following a year-long break, Mortal resurfaced in 2002 when the funky grooves of Nu-En-Jin arrived that fall.
