My Luminaries came together in mid-2000s London as a stadium-ready alternative rock band built around James Ewers, Sam Stopford, and brothers Saul and Dylan Perryman. Their sound centered on soaring, anthemic indie rock reminiscent of Arcade Fire, Broken Records, and the Guillemots. Between 2006 and 2007 the group issued a rapid succession of singles and EPs that generated sufficient attention to secure sessions the following year at West London’s Eastcote Studios, where producer Paul Stacey—known for work with Oasis and the Black Crowes—helped shape their first full-length recording. By then the Perryman brothers had departed, replaced on bass by Mark Ferguson and on guitar by Michael Murray, while keyboardist Leila MacFie joined the lineup. The resulting album, Order from the Chaos, appeared in early 2010.
