Biography
Nashville songwriter and record producer Jason Deere frequently assembles a rotating lineup of supporting players known collectively as Nashville Tribute Band for his live appearances and recording sessions, the majority of which reflect Christian and spiritual themes. Deere joined forces with Diamond Rio pianist Dan Truman to launch the ensemble as a modestly secularized touring and recording vehicle aimed at spreading the Mormon faith. He set about composing a sequence of songs tracing the origins and growth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Drawing on a fluid roster that has included Truman along with Due West members Brad Hull, Matt Lopez, and Tim Gates, as well as David Osmond, Katherine Nelson, Billy Dean, Ron Saltmarsh, Mindy Gledhill, and Dyer Highway, Deere recounted the Mormon saga across three albums issued under the Nashville Tribute Band name on his own Deere Records label: Joseph: A Nashville Tribute to the Prophet (2005), Trek: A Nashville Tribute to the Pioneers (2007), and The Work: A Nashville Tribute to the Missionaries (2011). Shadow Mountain Records released Redeemer: A Nashville Tribute to Jesus Christ in 2014, again credited to Nashville Tribute Band. Two years later the collective marked the most widely observed Christian holiday by issuing Merry: A Nashville Tribute to Christmas, after which the group toured in support of the project with an emphasis on venues throughout Utah and Idaho. The Word: A Nashville Tribute to the Bible followed in 2018, and Praise: A Nashville Tribute to the Hymns appeared in 2020.
