Biography
Michael McLean built a devoted audience among members of the Latter-day Saint community through his remarkably consistent output as a songwriter. His holiday recording The Forgotten Carols has remained a steady commercial success, while performances of the material regularly draw capacity crowds. That visibility grew from modest origins: rather than beginning his career as a composer, he first served as producer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ HomeFront advertising initiative. Music remained his central ambition, and his wife Lynn repeatedly encouraged persistence, a point he recalls in the video If Only You Believe. The advice proved effective; by 1999 he had issued twenty albums, created multiple church videos, and collected numerous honors. Beyond those roles, McLean performs as a skilled pianist and demonstrates particular strength in narrative delivery. Kenny Hodges, who produced one of his projects, has observed McLean’s consistent ability to reach listeners emotionally—an approach clearly displayed on the 1999 album Safe Harbors. Across his entire catalog, sales have surpassed platinum certification. He lives with Lynn and their three children in Heber, Utah.
