Biography
A sextet blending colorful melodies with psych textures, Brisbane's Nice Biscuit first drew nationwide notice in 2017 after claiming victory in Triple J Unearthed's contest for a slot at the BIGSOUND conference, which secured them a recording contract.
The group had come together the previous year solely to play one isolated show inside a barn in Mullumbimby, yet an invitation to support fellow Brisbane psych enthusiasts Moses Gunn Collective arrived right away and prompted the members to continue. Twin co-frontwomen Billie Star and Grace Cuell helm the lineup alongside Ben Mulheran on guitar, keys, and vocals, Jesse Ferronato on guitar and vocals, Nick Cavendish on bass, and Kurt Melvin on drums. After issuing several early singles, the BIGSOUND appearance earned the band a deal with Break Even Recordings, an Inertia imprint.
Their inaugural release on the label, the 2017 track "Captain," fused cosmic psych elements, buoyant garage pop, and a propulsive, near-Krautrock pulse. Additional singles followed throughout the ensuing year and preceded the arrival of their debut full-length, Digital Mountain, in 2018.
