Hailing from San Francisco, the Love-Birds bring a hint of fuzz to their jangle pop sound. Their melodic numbers rely on chiming guitars yet retain sufficient bite and drive to avoid polished excess, allowing the group to surface from the Bay Area’s independent circuit in 2016 and draw early critical attention through the 2017 EP Filled with Hate. While building a following in the pop underground, the quartet aligned with Trouble in Mind to issue their debut full-length, In the Lover’s Corner, in 2018.

Guitarists and vocalists Thomas Rubenstein and Eli Wald join bassist Charlie Ertola and drummer Eli Groshelle, all four lifelong residents of San Francisco, California, though the EP’s title track addresses a brief, unsatisfying stretch when one member moved to Los Angeles. Drawing from R.E.M., Teenage Fanclub, and Big Star, the band had already established a strong live reputation before entering Secret Studios with engineer Peter Avery to record the four-track Filled with Hate, issued on 7-inch vinyl alongside digital formats and met with favorable reviews and organic buzz. After completing a West Coast tour behind the EP, they returned to Trouble in Mind for the album; Glenn Donaldson of the Skygreen Leopards, who had mixed the debut EP, shared production with Kelley Stoltz, and In the Lover’s Corner reached stores in May 2018.
