Night Demon emerged as a power trio steeped in classic heavy metal, channeling an energetic and riff-driven approach rooted in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Their lean, hard-hitting initial releases, such as the 2015 album Curse of the Damned, adhered closely to those foundational influences, whereas Darkness Remains in 2017 introduced greater songwriting intricacy alongside elevated studio production. That album’s strong reception secured the group regular slots at metal festivals across the globe in subsequent years. For their third full-length, the band embraced the longstanding concept-album format with 2023’s Outsider, which explored alternate realities and supernatural themes while confronting tangible struggles with isolation and despair.

The group originated in 2011 as a quartet comprising bassist/vocalist Jarvis Leatherby, guitarist Brent Woodward, and drummers John Crerar and Patrick Bailey. This configuration issued a self-titled EP in 2013, recorded by future member Anthony, which earned widespread acclaim from international metal critics for blending inventive elements with its retro aesthetic. In September of that year, ex-New Liberty drummer Dusty Squires took over for both Crerar and Bailey. The following month the lineup performed its first shows as a trio, supporting Diamond Head and Raven in Las Vegas.

Late in 2014 the band inked a deal with Century Media/Steamhammer and promptly entered the studio alongside co-producers Roger Camero, who also handled mixing duties, and Armand Tambouris. Their debut album Curse of the Damned arrived in January, reviving the NWOBHM atmosphere through economical production choices typical of their contemporaries. Night Demon’s appeal stemmed from strong compositional and arranging skills, supported by clear sonics and restrained musical approach. That April they appeared at Chicago’s Ragnarök Metal Apocalypse before launching a six-week European trek that featured sets at Keep It True in Germany, Pounding Metal in Spain, and Muskelrock in Sweden.

Woodward departed in January 2016, with guitarist Armand John Anthony—already familiar from engineering the debut EP—stepping in. Having previously played alongside Squires in New Liberty, Anthony brought a style drawn directly from the same sources that shaped Night Demon’s vision, while also contributing songwriting and engineering expertise. Between the album’s release and early 2017 the trio logged one hundred concerts throughout the United States, Europe, and a nineteen-date South American run, highlighted by a strong showing at Germany’s Bang Your Head!!! Festival.

Darkness Remains, the band’s second studio album, was tracked at the close of 2016 amid ongoing tour dates and finished the following January. Co-engineered by Anthony and Camero, it followed the March video-single premiere of “Welcome to the Night.” Critics again responded enthusiastically, praising the intricate yet immediate songcraft, cohesive interplay, weighty riffs, and expansive yet spacious production.

Extensive touring took Night Demon across North America, Europe, and the British Isles, with festival appearances at Ozzfest, Rock Hard Festival, Summer Breeze Open Air, Keep It True, Defenders of the Old, and Frost & Fire. In December the group headlined Cleveland’s Metal Holiday Food Drive at The Beachland Ballroom; the sold-out performance was captured and issued in August 2018 as the triple-length Live Darkness. The road remained central through 2018 and 2019, encompassing headline dates, festival bills, and luxury metal cruises.

March 2019 saw Night Demon top the bill at Germany’s Hell Over Hammaburg Festival, where original Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth guested for encores of the 1975 tracks “In Trance” and “Top of the Bill.” A five-week European support run with Sacred Reich followed in November and December.

Amid the 2020 global pandemic, the band returned with its first new material in three years via the single “Empires Fall,” backed by a cover of Le Griffe’s “Fast Bikes.” May brought “Kill the Pain” paired with a version of Cirith Ungol’s “100 mph.” Three additional limited-edition singles appeared: June’s “Are You Out There” b/w Thin Lizzy’s “The Sun Goes Down,” July’s “Vysteria” b/w Iron Maiden’s “Wasted Years,” and August’s live recording of “In Trance” b/w “Top of the Bill” featuring Roth. Physical copies of each single sold out rapidly, and the band withheld the cover tracks from digital platforms. To address collector demand, the ten-song compilation Year of the Demon surfaced in March 2022, adorned with artwork by Don Phury. Night Demon spent the rest of 2022 on tour, previewing previously unheard new material.

January 2023 saw the release of the title track “Outsider” from the forthcoming concept album, followed by another album cut, “Escape from Beyond.” Century Media issued Outsider itself in March. Written and produced by the band with Leatherby handling lyrics, the record wove together alternate realities, interdimensional portals, and supernatural motifs alongside themes of alienation, loss, regret, and revenge. Leatherby drew lyrical inspiration from horror films as well as his own pandemic-era seclusion in the remote countryside of Northern Ireland. Musically, the set reflected the intensive rehearsal each member had pursued during lockdown. The album arrived while Night Demon toured Europe and Japan.
