Formed in 1963, the legendary Italian experimental rock band Nomadi united singer Augusto Daolio, keyboardist Beppe Carletti, guitarist Franco Midili, drummer Leonardo Manfredini, sax player Gualtiero Gelmini, and bassist Antonio Campari. Their debut album appeared in 1965. In subsequent years the ensemble, whose name translates as the Nomads, appeared at Italy’s premier festivals such as San Remo and Canzonissima while circulating its recordings across Europe. Two losses hit the group in 1992 when founder Augusto Daolio died and bassist Dante Pergreffi perished in an accident. Nomadi nevertheless continued, dedicating its performances to the memory of the departed members. Shortly afterward the act shared stages with Chilean Inti Illimani and, in 1994, organized a drive to gather didactic material for Cuban children. During that same period the band supported the work of Green Peace and Amnesty International.
