Biography
Jernej Marusic crafts minimal techno defined by its deep, shadowy, and dub-infused qualities under the project name Octex, an abbreviation that expands to "organic crackle and tone experiments." Living in Ljubljana, Slovenia, he first turned to music creation during his late teenage years, starting with a PC before moving on to analog synthesizers for greater sonic range. At 23 he issued his debut full-length album as Octex, titled Idei Lahesna, through the Slovenian techno label Tehnika in late 2002. Drawing from the minimal dub-techno aesthetic associated with prominent Berlin imprints such as Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, Marusic’s productions center on intensity and shadow, building pummeling soundscapes immersed in trembling reverb and sustained sub-bass frequencies.
