Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All emerged as a ten-member cult rap collective based in L.A., evoking the image of a younger, more unhinged Wu-Tang Clan whose members traded chess and kung-fu references for skateboarding alongside lyrics steeped in drugs and gore. In 2007 the core lineup of Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Mike G, Left Brain, and Hodgy Beats, then between the ages of 16 and 20, began recording with their circle of collaborators Taco, Matt Martians, Domo Genesis, Syd, and Jasper the Dolphin. Their crude humor and confrontational themes quickly built an extensive underground audience and landed the crew on multiple “top artists to watch” lists. During 2010, Tyler, Earl, Mike G, and MellowHype—the duo of Hodgy and Left Brain—each issued solo mixtapes available as free downloads. Two years later the crew delivered their first official album, The OF Tape, Vol. 2.
