Biography
Ohmega Watts, born Milton Campbell, entered the world in Brooklyn, NY, before spending the bulk of his formative years between Queens and Florida. His professional path opened in Orlando, where he sharpened his abilities as an MC during the first half of the 1990s. At the same moment he developed a parallel fascination with beat construction, drawing inspiration from the era’s leading figures including Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Large Professor, and the RZA. The extended, stylistically varied path reached its initial milestone with the 2005 release of his debut album, The Find, issued on Ubiquity Records. Entirely written and produced by Watts himself, the record carried an organic sensibility and shared a clear ideological kinship with fellow Brooklynite Jneiro Jarel’s Three Piece Puzzle, even though Watts had already settled in Portland, OR, following his graduation from art school in Florida. Live instrumentation paired with classic sampling techniques gave the project a Native Tongues atmosphere, after which he contributed beats to the debut album Pure Thoughts by his crew Lightheaded. Two years later came his second full-length effort, Watts Happening.
