Biography
Lightheaded, a New Jersey outfit, crafts tracks that draw from the restless tunefulness typical of vintage indie pop and college rock while also channeling the wistful reverie associated with 1960s chamber pop. The band secured a partnership with Slumberland Records to issue both its 2023 EP Good Good Great! and its first full-length effort, the 2024 album Combustible Gems.
Stephen Stec and Cynthia Rittenbach, who serve as the principal songwriters and co-leaders, had already performed together in multiple projects before assembling Lightheaded toward the end of the 2010s. An independent single appeared in 2018, followed by the cassette album Cowboys and Constellations in 2019. When Slumberland brought out Good Good Great! in 2023, the roster had expanded to include Sara Abdelbarry on additional guitar and vocals, Anthony Meleo on drums, and string arrangements supplied by Erin Turner. Combustible Gems arrived the following year, introducing a stronger synth pop texture to several of its songs.
