Ontal

In November 2011 the Serbian pair Boris Brenecki and Darko Kolar launched the Ontal project, intent on stretching the limits of industrial techno and experimental noise. Their debut offering arrived in 2013 as the Output EP on London’s Darkfloor Sound imprint, a dense fusion of rhythmic noise and shadowy techno that announced their unyielding approach. Momentum built the following year through separate outings on RDL47 and Overdraw, capped by a split release alongside Dronelock on Duality Recs. Shared enthusiasm for abrasive sonics prompted Ontal and Dronelock to found the Shadow Story label, which issued the Parallax and Continuum EPs in 2015 along with the collaborative full-length The Topics. Ontal maintained a steady stream of material on Noiztank and Overdraw while establishing themselves as in-demand performers, mixing DJ sets with live PA appearances. Their first proper album, Entropia, surfaced in 2016 via Berlin’s experimental Ad Noiseam label, coinciding with a second self-titled EP on the duo’s own Ontal Records imprint.
