Our Broken Garden

Anna Broensted, Efterklang’s touring keyboardist, fronts the project Our Broken Garden, whose lineup also includes guitarist and keyboardist Søren Bigum along with bassist Moogie Johnson. Although the band’s work echoes a portion of Efterklang’s dreamy atmosphere, Our Broken Garden place greater emphasis on their collective texture and on Broensted’s alluringly aloof vocals. After uploading tracks to her MySpace page, Broensted drew the attention of Cocteau Twins’ Robin Guthrie, who then added Our Broken Garden to his Bella Union roster. The Lost Sailor EP appeared in April 2008, revealing the group’s interest in maritime imagery together with its ephemeral sonic character. That September brought the debut album When Your Blackening Shows, which was tracked inside an abandoned school. The follow-up, Golden Sea from 2010, credited Broensted as co-producer and expanded the palette with classical influences and references to Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist.
