Indie rock outfit Outer Spaces revolves around Cara Beth Satalino’s introspective songwriting for electric guitar. The project’s debut full-length, A Shedding Snake, drew inspiration from R.E.M.’s Murmur and appeared in 2016.

Satalino grew up in rural upstate New York and studied studio composition at Purchase College. In 2008 she issued the self-released EP The Good Ones under her own name; three years afterward Bakery Outlet and Salinas Records gave it a vinyl edition. Her brief band Witches also released the album Forever in 2011 on Bakery Outlet. Outer Spaces’ earliest recording, the Creature of Nature EP, was tracked in Athens, Georgia, where Satalino then lived, and surfaced in 2013. Later that year Matador Records placed the band in its Singles Going Home “single-of-the-month” series, releasing the 7" “I Was Divided/Eternally Fifteen.”

By 2014, with Chester Gwazda—whose résumé includes Future Islands and Dan Deacon—producing, playing bass and keys, and Ben Salie of the Pinecones on drums, the EP Garbage Beach came out on Salinas and Stupid Bag Records. Now relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, Outer Spaces delivered its first album-length statement, A Shedding Snake, through Don Giovanni Records in 2016; Gwazda again produced. After signing to Western Vinyl, the group returned in 2019 with Gazing Globe.
