Biography
Oxford Collapse emerged from Brooklyn, NY, by forging a connection between the shadowy, sharp edges of synth pop and the quirky indie rock of the 1990s, delivering a sound that burned with originality. Michael Pace on guitar and vocals, Dan Fetherston behind the drums, and Yong Sing da Silva on bass took their music to stages throughout the borough before issuing a self-titled debut EP in 2002. Da Silva exited in 2003 to pursue further studies, at which point Mike Henry joined on bass. The band's first album-length statement, Some Wilderness, surfaced on Kanine during spring 2004 and unleashed an eccentric blend of indie rock and post-rock intensity. Henry's time proved brief, so Adam Rizer came aboard just as the group prepared its next release, Good Ground. Issued in 2005, that record also concluded the trio's association with the New York indie imprint Kanine. Following repeated live outings alongside We Are Scientists, Oxford Collapse revealed a new partnership with Sub Pop in March 2006. Additional U.S. performances shared with the Joggers, Part Chimp, and the Constantines paved the way for the recording of the band's third album later that spring. John Agnello, whose past credits include Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and the Hold Steady, produced the sessions, and Remember the Night Parties reached stores in October 2006. After more road work with fellow Brooklynites We Are Scientists, the band resurfaced with Bits in August of 2008.
