Biography
Copenhagen-based duo Palace Winter blend synth, rock, and country with an atmospheric cinematic layer. Australian singer/songwriter Carl Coleman and Danish producer/synth-wizard Caspar Hesselager first crossed paths in 2013 while their prior groups—Coleman’s Sink Ships and Hesselager’s the Rumour Said Fire—shared a tour bus, prompting casual jam sessions that quickly evolved into a committed collaboration. Their debut EP, Medication, arrived in 2015 on the Copenhagen label Tambourhinocerous and was followed the next year by the full-length Waiting for the World to Turn on the same imprint. Extensive road dates in support of that album prompted the addition of Jacob Haubjerg on guitar and Jens Bach on drums. For the 2018 sophomore album Nowadays the pair chose to work strictly as a duo in the studio to streamline the process. A decisive shift occurred in 2019 once Coleman relocated to Tenerife; his songwriting began to mirror the disorientation of feeling lost in paradise, while Hesselager simultaneously incorporated hip-hop and soul textures into his productions, resulting in the 2020 album Keep Dreaming, Buddy that fused both viewpoints.
