Biography
Following her commanding run with 2NE1 across the K-pop landscape in the early 2010s, Park Bom reclaimed the spotlight as an independent solo act in 2019. That same year she flooded the market with a rapid succession of singles, most notably the global breakout “Spring,” which paired her with ex-bandmate Sandara “Dara” Park.
Park entered the world in Seoul in 1984 and lived for a stretch in the United States before entering the music industry toward the close of the 2000s. After signing with YG Entertainment she surfaced on the early Big Bang tracks “We Belong Together” and “Forever with U.” In 2009 the company assembled a girl group around Park, CL, Dara, and Minzy. The resulting act, 2NE1, quickly emerged as one of K-pop’s most successful overseas acts, conquering the Japanese and American markets via the albums To Anyone and Crush plus the 2011 worldwide smash “I Am the Best.”
Park had already tested solo waters in 2009 with the spotlight single “You and I,” drawn from 2NE1’s debut project, and again in 2010 with the chart-topping “Don’t Cry,” later included on the group’s 2011 EP. Additional guest spots found her alongside GD & TOP, G-Dragon, and Epik High. After legal difficulties in 2014 she withdrew from public view, surfacing only on reality programs until 2NE1 reunited for a round of farewell performances that concluded with the group’s formal disbandment in 2016.
Following a period of shifting label affiliations, she joined D-Nation in 2018 and staged her return the following spring with the Dara-assisted single “Spring,” which appeared on both the Spring and re:BLUE ROSE EPs. Maintaining her pace, she entered the reality contest Queendom and released two tracks from the program—her renditions of (G)I-DLE’s “Hann (Alone)” and Taeyang’s “Eyes, Nose, Lips.” She capped the year with another seasonal collaboration alongside Dara, “The First Snow.”
