Biography
Dwayne Parris-Robinson, who was born in London, first immersed himself in the dubstep scene near the end of the 2000s and had become a steady presence at the landmark FWD>> club night by the start of 2010. Early James Blake recordings, together with output from Hemlock and Hessle Audio, prompted him to craft his own airy, exploratory bass material while holding a post at the BM Soho record shop in London. Club dates soon paired him with Pinch, Zed Bias, L.V., and further central names from the dubstep and U.K. garage circuits.
Soundman Chronicles, the label he directs, debuted in 2013. The Wen collaboration Caught/Collide surfaced on Tempa the following year, and his initial solo effort, Burr, appeared on Idle Hands in 2016. Skeletal emerged next on Ancient Monarchy, succeeded by a remix EP late that same year. Additional 2017 releases on Hemlock (Your Kiss Is Sour) and The Trilogy Tapes (2 Vultures) broadened his reach, coinciding with his relocation to Bristol. November 2018 brought the Rubadub-issued “Deep Concentration,” shared with Kowton, plus his second Idle Hands title, Puro Rosáceaes.
Parris is recognized for restrained, bass-heavy electronic productions that skirt the outer edges of dubstep, grime, and techno, and for his stature as a DJ who heads Soundman Chronicles; he began issuing music in the mid-2010s and earned notice for several projects, among them the 2017 EP Your Kiss Is Sour.
