Formed in Virginia during 1996, the acoustic-based sextet known as Pat McGee Band quickly hit the road following its inception. The lineup features singer/songwriter McGee alongside guitarist/vocalist Al Walsh, keyboardist/vocalist Jonathan Williams, bassist John Small, percussionist Chardy McEwan, and drummer Chris Williams. Over the subsequent four years, extensive touring included support slots for Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Ziggy Marley, Counting Crows, and the Wallflowers, in addition to appearances on the H.O.R.D.E. tour. Such relentless live performances enabled the group to move more than 100,000 units of its independently issued recordings, which in turn secured a deal with Giant Records for the spring 2000 release of their debut album Shine, helmed by producer Jerry Harrison.
