Biography
A shape-shifting songwriter with an inquisitive bent, Pixx challenges entrenched norms across her evolving sound. Her path began with the folk-inflected Fall In EP in 2015 before turning toward the idiosyncratic electro-rock of later projects, notably the 2019 album Small Mercies.
Born Hannah Rodgers in Chipstead on the edge of South London, she received steady encouragement for her abilities during childhood. After spending the bulk of her education at a Catholic school, she completed two years at the performing arts institution The BRIT School. Drawing influence from Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Aphex Twin, she took her stage name from a nickname once used by her grandmother. Teaming with co-producer Simon Byrt, she crafted the folktronica-leaning debut EP Fall In, which surfaced in August 2015.
For her first full-length effort, The Age of Anxiety—titled after W.H. Auden’s final poem—she rejoined Byrt to shape a collection of darker electro-pop tracks reflecting the unsettled climate of the period. Work on the follow-up album Small Mercies began shortly afterward, incorporating grungy guitars and directing its focus at restrictive systems.
