Biography
Emphasizing multi-instrumental work above all, Farao constructs hypnotic fusions of electronic and acoustic textures that draw simultaneously from accessible folk traditions, unconventional orchestral rock, and expansive electronica. Her first long-player, issued in 2015, equilibrated percussive force with atmospheric immersion, while Pure-O from 2018 shifted decisively toward dance-floor rhythms.
Kari Jahnsen performs as Farao and previously appeared with Hella Better Dancer and Anna Lean & the Orchids. Raised in rural Valdres, Norway, she moved to Oslo and then composed and tracked her self-titled debut EP in Reykjavik, Iceland, with further sessions held in London, England alongside Mike Lindsay of experimental acid folk outfit Tunng. Something Nothing Records released the resulting indie folk/electronic EP in 2014.
While splitting time between London and Berlin, Jahnsen delivered her debut full-length Til It's All Forgotten in September 2015 via Arts & Crafts in North America and Full Time Hobby in Europe. Lindsay produced the album, and Grammy winner Andrew Scheps (Adele, Lady Gaga, Hozier) handled mixing. Soviet disco and the era’s analog synths shaped her sophomore effort Pure-O, which arrived in 2018. Jahnsen produced it with Berlin’s Tropical Contact High, marking her first release on Western Vinyl.
