London-based singer/songwriter Polly Scattergood fuses forward-thinking structures and expressive vocals into shadowy, otherworldly electronic pop. Her arrival on the scene in 2001 generated immediate attention through her self-titled debut on Mute, an album that united introspective melodic folk-rock with luminous electro-dance-pop. Later releases Arrows (2013) and In This Moment (2020) incorporated ambient indie pop alongside reflective, inward synth pop, expanding the range of narrative approaches at her disposal.

An Essex native who trained at the Brit School—the London performing arts academy whose alumni include Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Katie Melua—Scattergood signed with Mute at age 22 and delivered her debut single, “Nitrogen Pink,” in 2007. Two years later her first full-length album appeared, prompting parallels with Kate Bush and Björk. Her second album, Arrows, followed in 2013; produced by Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós), it earned praise both domestically and internationally. After a seven-year hiatus during which Scattergood became a mother for the first time, she returned in 2020 with the contemplative In This Moment, artfully merging art rock, introspective ambient synth pop, and propulsive dance-pop.
