Ambient pop musician Nick Principle uses Port St. Willow as the name for his solo work. The endeavor began in 2009 during his time residing in Portland, Oregon, fusing layered atmospheric textures with understated slowcore frameworks and falsetto delivery. His initial full-length, Even//Wasteland, surfaced late that year as a self-released item distributed through hand-stamped CD-R copies. After moving to Brooklyn in 2012, Principle completed and independently issued the follow-up album Holiday. That record attracted stronger notice, earning vocal acclaim across multiple outlets together with an overt endorsement from noise pop godfather Brian Eno. Port St. Willow entered a recording agreement with Downtown Records in 2013, prompting the label to issue a broader edition of Holiday in March.
