Biography
The origins of Boston-based Pretty & Nice trace back several hours northwest to Burlington, Vermont, where Holden Lewis first crossed paths with engineer and musician Jeremy Mendicino in 2004; the pair promptly laid down tracks that became the band's debut album, Pink & Blue. Once the record appeared and the duo had logged a full year of live dates, they relocated to Boston and added Bobby Landry on drums. Departing from standard practice, the outfit next issued an EP of remixes called Blue & Blue, which quickly drew notice from Hardly Art, the Sub Pop imprint. Backed by the label and now featuring Andy Contois on bass for touring, the group recorded its sophomore full-length Get Young, which surfaced in 2008. Armed with the advance Tora Tora Tora 7", Pretty & Nice hit the road nationwide, including a stop amid the SXSW festival that year. After Landry departed to chase new endeavors, the band entered a five-year recording break. Bassist and multi-instrumentalist Roger Lussier came aboard for the 2013 successor Golden Rules for Golden People, tracked in California before the musicians returned to Boston.
