Biography
Born in London, England, in 1970, Malachi spent multiple years active in the British reggae scene before gaining real notice in 1998. Launching his own Mount Arafat label produced the widely praised debut album Jah Light. During that same year he moved with his family to Jamaica, where the local release of ‘Jah Is Our Guide’ delivered a successful single. The momentum opened doors to work with Philip ‘Fatis’ Burrell and the Exterminator crew. Together they issued several hits, among them ‘Fire It Is Blazing’, ‘Ready Fe Dem’ and ‘Love Jah’. In 1999 Echoes and the Sunday Times both forecast a strong career ahead, praise that proved accurate when later singles arrived. Chief among them was the classic ‘Watch Over Me’, which remained on the Roots and Culture charts for an extended period. Sessions for his eagerly awaited follow-up album with Burrell also yielded the equally popular ‘You Can’t Come In’.
