Born as Christopher Campbell in Kingston’s Trenchtown and Arnett Gardens neighborhoods, Norris Man grew into a reggae performer whose Rastafarian convictions run deep, even as commercial breakthrough continued to elude him. By age ten he already lingered around area studios and sound-system dances, where promoters routinely tapped him to rouse the crowd. Functioning equally as singer and DJ, he draws from an expansive range of inspirations that stretch from Lionel Richie to Papa San. His spoken Jamaican patois remains thick enough to obscure many words, yet his singing voice cuts through with remarkable precision. He first entered the studio as a teenager, although those initial sides attracted little notice. Realizing that fame would not arrive on schedule left him discouraged, yet he pressed forward through repeated setbacks—among them financial exploitation and physical beatings—never pausing in his drive toward the objective he had set.
