Maya Postepski operates under the solo guise Princess Century as a Toronto synth pop musician who co-founded Austra and TR/ST. Her individual releases favor experimentation over the club-oriented goth pop produced by those bands, venturing instead through shadowy darkwave, space disco, and interstellar ambience. After exiting TR/ST she started issuing Princess Century recordings, beginning with the vocal-driven Lossless LP that appeared on the U.K. label Kennington Recordings in 2013. In 2015 the project moved to Toronto’s Paper Bag Records, the same imprint that houses Austra and TR/ST. The Lossy EP arrived that July, spotlighting the 22-minute dance track “Discoset” and displaying noticeably higher fidelity than the debut album. Her next full-length, Progress, followed in September; like the EP it stayed entirely instrumental, traversing dark, melodic techno alongside polyrhythmic experiments.
