Operating out of Rome, Italy, Pulcher Femina functions as a darkwave duo whose somber, atmospheric output spans goth rock, industrial, and EBM. Their work relies heavily on electronics and often embraces the electro-goth approach that gained traction across Western Europe, in contrast to the guitar-driven focus typical of much goth rock. The pair came together in late 1997 after singer/keyboardist Roberto Conforti crossed paths with singer/lyricist Anna Consuelo Cerichelli at Rome’s Velvet Club, a noted haunt for goth and darkwave followers. Although Italian served as the primary language for Conforti and Cerichelli—whose tastes encompass Depeche Mode, the Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, and Bauhaus—they write and sing in English without difficulty. During 1999 the duo tracked Fallen Angel at a Rome studio, and the recording surfaced the next year on the local Decadance label.
