Quiet Village, the duo of Joel Martin (aka Zeus) and Matt Edwards (Radio Slave), cast themselves as the prime architects of what they label, perhaps with a touch of irony, "sophisticated exotica for adults." They issued three 12" singles on Whatever We Want between 2005 and 2006. Even as the sources behind their densely sampled tracks grew familiar—the Alan Parsons Project's Pyramid opening, Giorgio Moroder's production on Janis Ian's "Fly Too High," Captain & Tennille's "Never Make Your Move Too Soon," and similar material—demand for the records kept rising beyond supply. Two years later !K7 stepped in with the album Silent Movie, which gathered five of the six tracks from those Whatever We Want singles and added seven new pieces. The pair's self-released Fragments of Fear mixes have only strengthened their standing for turning the obscure and terminally unfashionable into something prized.
