Radiopuhelimet emerged in 1987 after the dissolution of KTMK, the Oulu-based Finnish noise rock group. The new band adopted a direct, bass-centered punk direction shaped by Big Black and Scratch Acid. Their initial outing arrived the same year with the EP Sinappoa Ja Ketsuppia on Bad Vugum Records. Subsequent releases across a range of European and American labels produced the following full-length albums: Rokkiräjähdys in 1988, K.O. in 1990, Pian, Pian in 1991, Jäämeri in 1992, Maasäteilyä in 1995, Avaruus in 1997, Hiljaista! in 1998, and Oulu on Kaupungin Nimi in 2000.
