Biography
Ralphi Rosario earned widespread recognition as a leading mainstream and house producer and remixer throughout the 1990s, yet his lasting reputation rests on crafting house music’s most irresistible single, “You Used to Hold Me,” alongside his role in the celebrated Hot Mix 5 collective. That group energized Chicago’s WBMX throughout the 1980s by programming the era’s strongest house records, and their own label issued the original pressing of “You Used to Hold Me” plus key follow-ups such as “Pieces” and “I Want Your Love.” Rosario maintained steady dance-chart presence from the late 1980s into the 1990s via releases on NiteGrooves, Henry St., and Jus’ Trax. A 1994 reissue of “You Used to Hold Me” arrived with numerous remixes credited to Masters at Work, Danny Tenaglia, Hula & K. Fingers, DJ Hyperactive, and Maurice Joshua. On the other side of the console, Rosario has delivered productions and remixes for Pet Shop Boys, Gloria Estefan, Deee-Lite, and Debbie Gibson.
