For years, DJ/producer K-Def and vocalist Larry O operated behind the scenes in hip-hop rather than pursuing careers as recording artists, maintaining a deliberately understated presence. K-Def supplied beats for acts including Da Youngstas, while Larry O refined his delivery at open mics and freestyle competitions throughout New York and New Jersey. After building reputations through sustained work, the pair issued their 1996 album The Turnaround: Long Awaited Drama under the name Real Live. Fans and critics alike commended the seamless blend of their approaches, yet the duo slipped quietly from view once the project concluded its cycle.
