Originating in the small California town of Tehachapi, the Warriors drew primary inspiration from Inside Out, Refused, and Sick of It All to craft a post-hardcore sound that edges into metal. The lineup at formation in 2002 featured vocalist Marshall Lichtenwaldt, guitarists Danny Phillips and Javier Zarate, bassist Mike Pricendorfer, and drummer Donny Phillips. After issuing a debut 7" in 2003, the band delivered the full-length War Is Hell on Eulogy Recordings the following year. Strong critical response led Eulogy to reissue the album in 2005 as War Is Hell Redux, complete with two bonus tracks, while the group maintained an intensive touring pace ahead of tracking its sophomore effort, Beyond the Noise, in 2006—an album that pushed cumulative sales past 30,000 units. The Warriors then moved to Victory Records, where the revised roster of Lichtenwaldt, Zarate, guitarist Charlie Alvarez, bassist Roger Camero, and drummer Matt Anderson released the third album, Genuine Sense of Outrage, in 2007.
