Rein is a solitary Swedish artist channeling electro-industrial energy through EBM, where bright melodic hooks meet abrasive synthesizer textures, relentless rhythms, and a sharp punk edge. Born in Stockholm to a household steeped in music, Joanna Reinikainen counts '80s singer/songwriter Paul Rein as her father and Swedish House Mafia's Sebastian Ingrosso as her half-brother. She began creating tracks at thirteen, drawing from the wide array of sounds and visuals she encountered on MTV.

In 2016 she issued her first release, the self-titled EP Rein, whose songs include "There Is No Authority But Yourself," "Can't Handle Me," and "Born to Die." The record's intense, combative electronic style drew widespread critical acclaim and secured two nods at the 2017 P3 Guld awards. Her singular sonic approach, paired with an aesthetic that merges toughness and femininity, resonated with listeners familiar with Ayria and Unter Null while also attracting younger audiences unfamiliar with the earlier darkwave milieu.

Over the following years she issued standalone tracks such as "Missfit," "Off the Grid," "Bodyhammer," and "Dystopia," broadening her palette to incorporate rave, synth-pop, and rap textures. Those initial records appeared on the Scandinavian independent powerhouse Playground; she parted ways with the label in 2019 to handle distribution independently. The 2020 full-length Reincarnated arrived as a thematic work rooted in the classic cyberpunk film The Matrix. In 2022 an EP of dub reinterpretations produced by Boys Noize surfaced on the producer's own imprint.
